Oxford Hawks Ladies 2s made the trip to Henley expecting a tough game as Hawks were in 1st place, 2 points ahead and Henley 1s were close behind in 2nd place.
Hawks started pressing slightly differently to normal which initially caused some confusion for the home side. But it was evident that the Ladies 2s were massively up for this game as they started really brightly and were soon putting the Henley defence and GK under pressure.
However it was Henley who broke the deadlock first and went 1-0 up. However Hawks did not let that deter them and Emma Stephenson took matters into her own hands and drove on her reverse delivering a slightly lifted ball into the area but this was no problem for Jo Palethorpe who timed her lead perfectly and played the ball past the GK into the back of the net.
After half time, Hawks changed it up again and went out differently, putting a lot of pressure on the Henley team. However, Henley were awarded a penalty corner early on and converted this opportunity. But Hawks kept on going and were awarded a penalty corner which Tiny wee Claire calmly scored.
Both teams kept on creating chances and it was Henley who had a number of penalty corners towards the dying minutes of the game but Hawks GK, Millie Lane did a great job of organising the Hawks defense and making a number of great saves to keep the scoreline at 2-2.
Overall, it was a really competitive game with lots of good hockey and a point a piece was probably a fair result. It was a great team performance from Hawks but joint man of the match went to Jo Palethorpe and Hie Sawyer who both worked tirelessly and displayed lots of silky skills as well.
