Oxford Hawks Ladies' 1s faced top of the table Stourport at Banbury Road North on a breezy Saturday, keen to put in a strong performance against clearly the league's strongest side. Hawks started very well and created a few chances of their own, with Emily Smith coming close with a volley at the far post early on. There was action at both ends, with Hawks keeper Jess Hughes being called into action a few times, pulling off some quite outstanding saves to keep the score goalless at half time.
In the second half, Hawks pushed forward confidently, with Sally Clark on outstanding form at the back, but were not able to find that vital breakthrough. It was on one of their forays up front where Stourport won back possession and countered quickly, and their centreforward skillfully finished a one on one against Hughes. With fifteen minutes left on the clock Hawks continued to push, playing some great passing hockey all over the pitch, but they couldn't find the back of the net. Time ran down but Hawks can reflect back on some outstanding hockey and look forward with confidence to their final home game this weekend against Trojans.
