‘Twas a blustery day at Sonning Hockey Club. Tensions were running high. With Sonning at the top of the table, Hawks knew this was to be a tough game. Both teams came out fighting. Hawks were momentarily on their back foot due to an interception from our pushback. However we found our feet and levelled out the play. Thanks to some excellent defending from Jan, Phil, Abi and Lizzie, Sonning found it tough to make any shots. We found ourselves evenly matched, which was reflected in the 0-0 halftime score.
After our half time chat, we came out wanting a goal. However it was Sonning who managed to score first. We sadly lost Jan to her knee injury but we managed to stay strong and carry on battling. After some great attacking play from Alessia and Sophie, it was Lotty who, having received a long pass from twin Buffy, managed to score with a cracking shot from the top side of the D, making it 1-1. Sonning then had a moment where they were close to shooting once more, luckily Alice was there to sweep it out. In the last 5 minutes both teams were getting tired due to the intensity of play. The game ended with a draw and both teams headed to the clubhouse for a well-deserved sausage, chips and beans, rounded off with Alessia’s much anticipated brownies.
MOM went to Monica who made some excellent decisions while on the ball and she always seemed to be there in the right place to support her teammates and Ffion was awarded a packet of Haribos as Sonning’s opposition player of the day.
