After a staggered arrival with Monica and Sophie using direction live to get out of a building site and drive to the pitch, we started off slow, as it took a bit of time to get used to the pitch. However, after a bit of time we managed to find our feet. Despite some brilliant defending from Jan, Lizzie and Phil the first goal went to the Runners. Charlie, the umpire, said we had 90% of the possession however their defense was very strong especially their keeper, and in spite of a great cross in front of the goal before halftime (from Alessia to Sophie) we remained one goal down.
At halftime, we had an inspiring and stern talk and we came into the 2nd half with increased determination and confidence. Caitie, our man of the match, did multiple runs down the right of the pitch and used her great skills to move around the defenders. There was some brilliant play from Ffion in the middle, and Buffy did some great passes into the D. Our hard work finally paid off when Lotty did a brilliant cross to Bella, who tapped it to Sophie who pushed it into the goal. With 3 minutes left in the game, hopes were high for another goal, but when the game finished the score was 1-1 which as a team we were happy about, especially after such a bumpy start. We are looking forward to next week and are ready to up our game against Sonning.
And Yes, Monica and Sophie did get safely back to Oxford without the need to too much SatNav help!
Thanks to Charlie Baggs for umpiring, our travelling supporters and Abi (or was it her mum?) for the cookies and cakes!
