Oxford Hawks made the journey south to Exeter to face Exe, and had a great start applying pressure on the home side from the first whistle. Hawks won a penalty corner early on and despite Caro Harris’ strike hitting the backboard, the umpire deemed it to be above backboard height as it crossed the line and disallowed it. Hawks continued to press and a good effort from Jess Amps was well saved by the keeper. Exe grew into the game after about ten minutes and Hawks keeper Jess Hughes was called into action with a few top class saves to keep the score goalless at half time.
In the second half, Exe pressed hard and were rewarded with a breakaway goal after ten minutes, and then had a devastating spell adding two more in three minutes. To their credit Hawks continued to press, with Poppy Webb on fine form throughout, and created a number of good chances, but the Exe defence kept everything out.
