U14 Girls A team win against Wallingford

17 February 2019, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

U14 Girls A 6 - 1 Wallingford U14 Girls

This must-win match started with the pitch bathed in glorious sunshine.

We had not lost to Wallingford this season and we were eager to continue our unbeaten record against them.

Despite having lost the toss we started strong with a well timed strike by Gemma being saved by their goalie early in the match

We won a penalty corner but again their goalie wouldn't let us take the lead saving Harri's shot. 15 minutes into the first half, Lili won another penalty corner. Harri's initial strike was saved but Gemma followed up and finally got us on the score sheet. 1-0

After a lapse in concentration we found ourselves drawing 1-1 after 20 minutes. Amelia did not stand a chance against 2 of their attackers.

We kept our heads and went straight back at them winning a penalty corner. Gemma's strike was saved but Harri followed up with a power shot. Back in the lead 2-1.

The team continued to pass the ball well through the mid field and created a number of chances but we were unable to convert them.

Then after more missed chances and numerous saves by the Wallingford goalkeeper Lili demonstrated some fabulous individual skill to put the ball in the goal. Half time 3-1.

Early in the second half we secured another penalty corner. A well worked set piece which was put over the line by Emily. 4-1

Wallingford were not beaten and kept testing our defence. Lucy had a great game winning many tackles making it difficult for the opposition to advance. Thankfully Amelia was also on form making a number of great saves and Ffion strong in defence clearing the ball defending a penalty corner. Wallingford kept coming and we were put under pressure when they took a quick free hit and attacked in numbers. Again Amelia saved us!

Continuing to apply the pressure Lili scored her second goal.

Then after some lovely passing and sustained pressure Harri scored again securing a solid victory.

Final score 6-1. A solid all round team performance and a great way to start half term.
