The highs and lows of the Mens 7's......

23 February 2019, 14:30, Banbury Road North (Top)

Men's 7s 8 - 1 Sonning Men's 5s

The highs and lows of the 7s.

Classic 7s performance, champagne hockey and utter tripe, this game had both.

After having a large proportion of possession the 7s found themselves a weak goal down (same old story), however whilst still playing frustrating hockey they managed to draw level after a short corner, with Shambles scoring from the top of the D following his trademark Shambles shuffle routine! Hawks continued to frustrate and it was only thanks to the cat-like reactions of keeper Simon elegantly saving a penalty flick before the break that kept it level at 1-1.

The 7s had a frank half time team talk, although there were the usual words about optimism, we  came out a different team in the second half and ran away with an 8-1 win. Shambles started the rout with a well struck hit, thanks to Tim’s 16 finding him in the D (no need for midfield, great news). Goals followed from Nico, Tyser, Elliot and Tyser.

Shambles then claimed his hat-trick (miraculous) before the Sheriff finished of the goal rush; a few practice swings led to an old fashioned reverse shot bobbling into the goal. A mention should go to the Sheriff for mentoring/forcing Chair to play a series of 1-2's up the wing, which led to nothing but showed it was possible for Chair to run and the Sheriff to pass! Whilst Bunny was crying in the dugout Hawks continued to have all the possession and played some free flowing hockey, with Raynor and Stoker being able to join in the attacks. Hawks were so in control that they even had time to start bickering amongst themselves; Elliot’s “delicate” mention to Chair about keeping the ball on the ground led to a swift repost about his lack of goals, entertaining stuff, the response that he had been scoring (how many Steve?!), was even funnier! Thanks to the 5's for their sideline support, although “Allez les bleus” had no effect in helping the Frenchman score (desperate times for Royer on the goal front!). Overall, once over the first half a happy day was had by all (except Bunny until after a few beers).

MOM; Simon (Keeper)

Goals; Shambles 3x, Tyser 2x, Elliot, Venables, Stott.

We face South Berks next week without Tyser, Royer and Venables so opportunities galore for all those potential midfield wizards.......

Thanks to the umpires....
