Hawks started well, with many good passages of play, but no outcome in the first half. The defensive unit transferred the ball from the right channel to the left with ease and by doing this we were able to create numerous good opportunities, we were unfortunate not to execute them. The first half was anything but one sided, as Cheltenham posed a threat and did enter Hawk’s D a couple of times, luckily, they did not manage to get a shot off. Hawks were strong in the first half, but lacked energy and should have been more clinical, especially in Cheltenham’s D.
In the second half however, after Haribo and a pep talk from Lisa, the second half did not disappoint. The girls entered the second half with buckets full of energy and enthusiasm, taking Cheltenham by surprise. We scored 3 goals, two were scored by Lily and Harri within two minutes, and the last was scored by Izzy. Overall, our performance in the first and second halves were worlds apart. Cheltenham persevered from start to finish, and Amelia in goal, was required to make a couple of fantastic saves. It was a great all-round outcome and performance by Hawks, but the match would never of taken place if Cheltenham’s coach had not hand swept the pitch and removed all the snow from the astro! Many will remember this game as the one with the pigeon, as he did not sweep up the pile of feathers! Injury wise, it was a good day as we only had Freya hurting her foot in the second half, thankfully she is ok now, and the team are all ready to play the next match in the tournament, and potentially our last match as an Under 14 squad.
