An early start with a cold, crisp morning didn't deter the Ladies 4’s who were out of the traps quickly with an excellent goal scored by Rebecca in the first few minutes of the start.
Henley came back quickly and had numerous short corner attempts which the defence valiantly defended but eventually they hit us hard with 2 quick goals in succession shortly before half time. They had speed and were able to carve out attacks out of nothing on occasions. Our heads didn’t drop at all. We kept running and attacking. The opposition just were a bit stronger and tactical on occasions which allowed them to score 3 more goals. Although the result looks disappointing it doesn’t tell the story of the game or the improvements we are making.
Over the last two games we have had the benefit of Clare at the back with Becky and Evelyn which has allowed Annabel to join Lara and Eveena to play as wingers to help with the midfield. This change has been helpful as it has helped push the ball forward and drive at the oppositions defence but also enables these three to run back and defend when required.
As a team this week, we played extremely well against a very strong defensive team, who unsurprisingly are joint top of our league. We were able to make excellent runs into the D, create some lovely pass and play, keep possession and test out their defence and keeper. Some great running and passing from Mimi, Bizza, Gemma, Bea, Tiggy, constantly pushing forward along with excellent directional play from Catherine, Caz and Rebecca.
If we continue to play as we did today we will get the results we require and deserve. So dust ourselves down and onwards and upwards to the next matches.
Henley’s young FB was given MOM by us as she was particularly effective in stopping our attacks.
Lots of nominations for our MOM - Annabel just pipped it
