Ladies’ 1s take hope from final friendly
26 January 2019, 13:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 1s 2 - 4 Swansea City Ladies 1s
After a disappointing result against St Albans last week, Hawks were determined to give an improved performance against Swansea. Focusing on enjoyment of the game, Hawks demonstrated simplicity can be key, with a long ball through from defence which allowed Poppy to tip it in past fellow Hawks member, Evelyn, who kindly stepped in as keeper for Swansea. However, this lead was short lived and Swansea quickly responded with 3 goals, using their speed to manoeuvre through the centre of the pitch.
The second half gave Hawks a chance to come back fighting. Early penetrations into the D meant that Swansea’s defence had to manage the determined Hawks forward line. This resulted in a string of short corners, with the experience of Caro making a good call to adapt the routine, slotting their second goal home. Swansea, not happy with the score line, once again came back fighting to make the final score line 4-2. A flattering result for the opposition, as Hawks were unlucky to not have made it draw 4-4, when 2 of their goals received an early blow of the whistle and advantage not played to its full potential. Despite the results over the past few weeks, Hawks have built on their games week by week. This is sure to stand them in good stead for the league re-starting against ISCA next week.
