We took their challenge very seriously, expecting a tough encounter. Jacs' team talk marshalled the troops and we took to the field.
The first ten minutes saw plenty of end to end action as both teams were quick on the break. Harri took on the defenders in a lovely solo run, the rebound went to the top of the D where Pip was poised and duly hammered it through the goalie and into the back of the net.
Hawks started to dominate possession, linking well going forwards and stretching the Marlow defence. Soon Alice sent a lovely cross left from just before the D, Sophie D was able to put the ball through to Sherene who nutmegged the keeper.
2-0 at half time, Hawks were determined not to let any trace of complacency appear. The first ten minutes of the second half saw increased desire to win the ball, with determined battling especially notable from Livi, Alice and Georgia. Our pressure was rewarded when Harri picked up an excellent cross from the left and showed good presence of mind to slip the ball past the keeper and to the awaiting Pip who was more than happy to tap in our third goal.
This sparked Marlow into more determined play with several breaks forward from which they won a corner. A second corner ensued from a foot and Marlow scored whilst advantage was being played by the umpires.
Hawks were determined not to let this disrupt their pattern of play and played good possession hockey, going backwards to go forwards and defending with conviction. A little bit of luck went our way as Marlow hit post, but Hawks were more than happy to record our 11th win of the season having not dropped a point yet.
With the final score of 3-1 mention must be made of Jacqui's cool composure in running the team, the supreme efforts from the defensive line and goalie and the excellent umpiring.
Man of the match was Harri for her jinky runs, selfless team play and determination to win back the ball.
