Eagles come from behind to win at Wycombe

13 January 2019, 12:00, Wycombe High School

Eagles 2 - 1 Wycombe Ladies masters

A team packed with more midfielders and defenders than forwards it was impressive that two goals were scored for the Eagles as they squeezed a win from this close game against Wycombe.

The first five minutes was peppered with errors from both sides, and it was the Eagles who were made to pay from the miss traps, erratic passing and untypical poor first touches when they conceded a goal. This seemed to wake the team up and as the game progressed the errors reduced and the Eagles started to work their way back into the game.

After about 20 minutes after a good move down the right a shot was saved by the Wycombe keeper and Kat was the quickest to react, pushing the ball over the line. Some hard work from the midfield and good marking at the back kept the scores even at half time.

At the break we talked about short sharp passes exploiting the space and from the start this was put into action with the Eagles going ahead with their first attack of the second half when Sue received a ball at the top of the D and hit a hard accurate shot just inside the post.

Wycombe were determined to recover the game and attacked consistently and competitively throughout the second half. However the midfield and defence stood firm assisted by the forwards working back as well as trying to stretch the game, and some fabulous saves by Linda in goal. It was a happy team with some tired legs that heard the final whistle blow. The first Eagles win of the season and it felt great!
