Men's 4s 4 - 0 Thame Men's 1s
Probably the best performance in a long time from a Hawks side with an excellent blend of youth and experience.
There were many notable performances from some returning faces including Adam Laird, a dominant Tim Martin and an older face who threatened to steal the show - Scraggy (no longer known as Robbie’s Dad) who with two inspired pieces of intelligent play helped to dim a good Thame team. The first, a diving deflection (yes, you read this correctly) from a great pass from Gary took Hawks to 3-0 just after the break and second a square pass for Chris Maidlow to score (again, you read this correctly - a square pass from a Hawks player to his team-mate, in a better position in the D). No red mist in the D from the poacher!
The team’s youth also had a great day, with Bradley scoring a wonderful goal from an astute reverse pass from the ever improving Jamie Hill. MOM went to Harrison who has revelled in his new position at right half by putting in a series of excellent performances and a massive increase in his passing completion stats.
DOD was apparently very harsh on Boggs, who pulled off a remarkable double save late in the game, causing the opposition to christen him Spiderman!
Top of the league and the challenge will now be to stay there in what is a very competitive league and where seemingly anyone can beat anyone. The skipper is still concerned that 25 points got you relegated last year.....
