M1's Limp Through in EH Cup

13 January 2019, 14:00, Banbury School

Men's 1s 1 - 1 Banbury Men's 1s

The M1's travelled to Banbury to play their rearranged national knockout match and looked every inch a team that had not trained or played for several weeks.  Unable to retain the ball, Hawks struggled to get any foothold in the game and Banbury were dominant for the first twenty minutes.  However, the hosts were unable to convert their superiority into goals and Hawks finally started to threaten.  Minutes before half time Olie Lobo fired home from the top of the D but the goal could not disguise an unimpressive first half for Hawks. Hawks play did not improve in the second half and Banbury held the upper hand throughout.  However, a combination of good work by Chris Price, returning in goal for the first time this season, and a plethora of chances that went begging for Banbury meant that Hawks clung on until three minutes from time, when Banbury eventually and deservedly found an equaliser.  The game ended 1-1 and went straight to penalty strokes.  Conversions by Jack Biggs, Andy Watts and Harry Golding proved too much for Banbury, who missed three of their five strokes and so handed Hawks a tie in the last 16 against premiership side Reading.
