It was simply one of those games where nothing quite clicked. Falcons generally dominated the game against the hosts, which was played in good spirit. Too often poor passing and the effect of the Christmas break caused difficulties and stopping after 15 minutes for four quarters did little to help continuity. We will see whether this is introduced again during the season.
Griffiths helped to unlock the deadlock and Falcon's frustration as he was well found by David White for the opening goal.
Sumser and Burrell worked the right channel effectively and Dawson caused problems for the Winchester defence but the keeper made some useful saves. Sumser then produced a stunning strike from a narrow angle to make it 2-0.
This finally became 3 as Dawson found Griffiths at the back post for the best move of the game and Falcons finally found some rhythm. Unfortunately this spell was broken for the final 15 minute break and the Warner team talk of enjoy the last 15 minutes but keep it simple and maintain a clean sheet fell on deaf ears, including his own!
Martin, the opposition centre forward, had returned to play his first game for 2 years. After a serious of bizzare incidents the ball found its way to his stick and he angled the ball towards the Falcons goal. Wilsdon between the sticks appeared to have it covered and made the first save but the dry pitch prevented a clearance and the ball slid over the line. The final touch which led to this event is still unclear!
