Hawks won with probably their best performance of the season against South Berks with Robbie’s Dad coming out of the shadows of his son and securing both the MOM and DOD nominations.
The goals from Scraggy which secured the MOM were a now trademark tap-in following some great pace and incisive running by Johnny Sutherland and a superb finish on the stroke of halftime, turning in a rocket of a cross again from Johnny. In avoiding a jug by deftly turning a cross in the second half onto the post the DOD was also secured. Other notable mentions go to Harrison for an increasingly assured performance, to the galloping Maidlow for causing havoc down the right and scoring the other goal and to Brett whose assured performance gave us both balance and aerial outlet.
Less notable mentions go to Boggs and Minna for over training in Boozy Bingo on Friday night and getting into an email spat with the grammar police (aka Gary) when “at least 7 pints in” via email and to Matt Oakes for failing to score with the goal at his mercy (again). And finally, Will got his head in the way of a short corner and deposited considerable blood on the South Berks pitch in the dying minutes. The captain was just relieved it was Will and not Brett that was injured, cheerfully announcing this in the bar afterwards – it’s great to be wanted, thanks Dave!
