L4s lose out in the dying seconds to well drilled Phoenix 1s

01 December 2018, 13:00, Reading University Sports Park

Ladies' 4s 2 - 3 Phoenix & Ranelagh Ladies 1s

This weekend the Ladies 4s played Phoenix and Ranelagh 1s. Unfortunately a couple minutes in to the first half Phoenix scored from a strike in the D however a great transfer from the back and use of space by our inners led to Mimi skilling the goalie and Gemma tapping it in, making it one all. Despite some persistent and effective defence that followed from our half and full backs another Phoenix goal was scored.
We started the second half with a goal to make up and we did so quickly, Two minutes in Sarah intercepted a sixteen hit out and scored an amazing goal on her reverse making the score two all. What followed was a very tough, defensive battle for the rest of the half, with us putting a stop to multiple goals. Evelyn made some fantastic saves and the whole team worked tirelessly on getting the ball away from a very strong Phoenix side. With 30 seconds left a Phoenix player passed the ball across the D and scored, making it a 3-2 defeat for Hawks. Although the result of this match was really frustrating we all played brilliantly as individuals and a team, using the space effectively and dangerously. Well done to everyone but especially Sarah who won a well deserved man of the match!
