Oxford Hawks Ladies 4s came away with a 3-3 draw against Thame Ladies 1s after a hard-fought away game. After a run of disappointing results, we were determined to get the basics right this week.
We started out with a lot of possession in our attacking third, using the pace of our inners and forwards to put Thame under pressure for the first twenty minutes. We were rewarded for clinical play in the D with a superb goal from Rebecca’s penalty corner. Thame responded well to the pressure and quickly came back with a goal of their own and further sustained pressure. Evelyn kept us at 1-1 with some agile goalkeeping, and our back four put in a solid performance, with some excellent work from Lara.
Hawks strung together some wonderful passing play, which was rewarded with another cracking goal from Rebecca, taking us to 2-1. A calamitous spell saw injuries for both Hawks and Thame, and an unsettled period for Hawks allowed Thame to put two away and lead the match with three goals to Hawks’s two.
Hawks rallied to the call of ‘big five’ and were able to pile on the pressure, narrowly missing the goal a few times before Rebecca made it a hat-trick with a beautiful ball from Sarah. MOM to Rebecca for putting all three goals away!
