Oxford Hawks knew for sure how important this game was against West Hampstead 1’s as both teams were joint top of the table.
The game started off very competitively as both teams were raring for a win. The first goal came from a great shot at goal from Hie Sawyer. This put the team into a good spirit and helped them to progress further. Next Helen Nicholson scored from a penalty corner. The ball was slipped to the left to her where she then slapped the ball to the far post resulting in a 2-0 lead for Hawks. Unfortunately a few minutes after this excellent play Hawks conceded a goal.
However after a very tactical team talk Hawks heads did not drop and only two minutes into the second half Helen Nicholson scored another goal from a short corner. This time it was quite a scrappy corner where Helen got a touch in on a deflection after rebounding off the keepers pads several times. The next goal AGAIN came from Helen Nicholson in another penalty corner. This goal was a half volley to the back post. A great third goal for Helen's hat trick.
The score was now 4-1. Next goal was from Hie sawyer a great shot from the top right of the D going into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Spirits were definitely lifted after being 5-1 up but this didn't stop Hawks pressing on.Goal number 6 for hawks came from Claire Werlinger in the 58th minute. Then only 1 minute after goal number 7 came from Prada Herron with a hit from the top of the D. Then finally to finish the game off Emily Wilkinson scored the last goal by a cheeky hit into the back of the goal. The final score ended 8-1 to Hawks, a really good result, helping the team remain at the top of the table with a little breathing space.
