After a week contemplating the loss of his 100% penalty flick record Luke came to the fore with an inspired MOM performance.
With two cracking strikes in the first half, one after a slick move with Mr Maidlow and the other a rifled shot which hit the bar and post on its way in, he was a man possessed. Rarely has a ball been struck with such force and rarely (recently) has it stayed below the height of passing air traffic. The only threat to his hattrick seemed to come from the umpire who disallowed two further Hawks efforts in the first half.
Ashford were difficult to shake off and reduced the arrears before Ian (Robbo) got in on the act with two good strikes. Luke completed his hattrick and Harrison, who improves every week (quote from Ragy, “the boy is becoming a man” ) scored a flick against their kicking back – good job that went in! Further solid performances came from Brett and Matt Oakes, who still is searching for his first Hawks goal - we are all enjoying the increasingly desperate attempts to get on the scoresheet.
Much better, but with sterner tests to follow.
DOD went to Will for trying to take out the bench with a deflection. In other news Captain Cooke, obviously worried about his pace and has issued Will a sprint challenge which has been accepted. My money is on the captain and a couple of hamstring pulls…
