This was not a great advert for fast flowing hockey.
Hawks were awful, especially in the second half and could not transfer their superior possession into goals. Comfortable at half time and one-up (Robbie Scragg), we dominated play but much like Arsenal in the last years of Wenger’s reign (Gari, just for you), did not have the killer instinct to kill the opposition off. We played OK until the last third of the pitch but could not find the killer pass or finish.
Windsor were top of the league and will remain so however it will be a surprise if they remain in top spot with their somewhat agricultural approach. It was like playing in the Yorkshire League in the early 90’s, the big guy smacking it out of defence to the cries of, “corner flags lads”. Crude, but somehow effective.
Increasingly fractious at the end of the game, we missed a flick and had a legitimate goal disallowed, but these things happen when we are not on our game. It was hard to pick a MOM, so I don’t think we did and the DOD should probably be shared by all.
We hope for better things next week…
