Ladies' 4s 1 - 4 Oxford University Ladies 2s
The Ladies 4s were up against a tough & speedy opposition against Oxford Uni 2s. Right from the start we knew that they were going to be assertive and they would stay tight when man marking. Oxford Uni did just this and scored a goal after quite a lot of pressure from them. Hawks responded well and gained more of the ball leading to a great team goal that was eventually pushed in by Sherene – all level! For most of the first half it stayed one all with Hawks holding our own and creating a few chances. Mostly created by the defence who were playing some great transfers out wide from Becky and Annabel to Tiggy, who made so many determined drives forward. Hawks were unfortunate not to score on these occasions. Some great saves by Evelyn were made but then Oxford Uni struck a goal towards the end of the first half 2-1. Then in the last phase of play in the first half, Oxford Uni played the ball into the D and despite Hawks tight defence they cut through and scored another 3-1 …half time!
Without letting our heads drop, during the second half we held strong. We had a lot of possession and looked like scoring. Then there was a strong tackle from Annabel who was unfortunately given a green card. With Hawks one player down, we kept Oxford Uni out of the D. Annabel came back on and we all managed to ignore the Oxford Uni side-line noise. Then after a strong section of possession, Oxford University scored another goal. The match carried on with fairly equal possession. Hawks had lots of positive chances and were unlucky not to score again.
Man of the match went to Evelyn for her great saves!
