Ladies' 7s in sunny game with Slough
20 October 2018, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 7s 1 - 1 Slough Ladies 4s
It was not a good start to the day: our keeper texted to say she was in hospital and they were going to operate that day. Fortunately, Becky Madden-Waite offered to goal keep for us and Linda Billington helped us find kit in the hut. We were ready.
Both sides started strongly but we had more of the possession. We dominated the first half. Emily Watson, just turned 13, moved up to centre half and played an excellent game. She has beautiful skills and worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, passing neatly to the forwards. Lucy Hanslip made an brilliant centre forward, strong on the attack and neatly beating the defence.
The score was still 1-0 at half time. Slough attacked strongly but we held them off. Everyone played very well. Then Slough broke through our defence and played a shot at goal that Becky could not clear. So the final score was 1-1. Many thanks to the umpires: Jacqui Barlow and Rachel Bellamy who kept fair and firm control of the game at all times.
The team voted Lucy player of the match with Emily a close second.
