Ladies 6s were ready to make amends to the result the week before. We knew it was likely to be quite a physical match, but we were going to play our own game. Although Wychwood hardly had any time in our defensive D they had an early short corner. Millie and her defence stayed strong and got the ball away after which we spent most of the first half in our attacking D. Shots coming in from all angles, but sadly nothing was coming from it. Finally the break through came when Tori took on a straight strike from a short corner and we were 1-0 up. Half time came and a positive team talk was on the cards. Reminders to keep it simple, to be confident in front of goal and more importantly get on the rebounds.
Hawks started the second half confidently and the second goal quickly followed, a good strong pass to Dette and the finish was never in doubt. Some more well angled passes around the D, it didn’t take Dette long to get her second. Hawks were feeling confident now and the level of hockey improved. Tori got her second with a simple tap in from the post, putting Hawks 4-0 up. Millie did a brilliant save, confidently leaving her line when she was left 1 on 1. The Wychwood attacker was given no time to get the shot away. The fifth goal came from Emily with some lovely individual skill from the half way line and to top it off it was a cracking reserve stick shot. It wouldn’t have been complete if Linda hadn’t got her goal, another simple tap in from on the post after yet more strong passing.
Sadly in the final moments of the match, Millie found herself 1 on 1 with an attacker again. This time Wychwood were able to get a bobbly ball over Millie and into the back of the goal.
Ffion was awarded MOM for an outstanding performance in midfield. Fighting for every ball and making important interceptions.
