Ladies' 4s 4 - 2 Reading Reading Rockets

On a crisp fresh sunny Autumn morning, second game of the season Ladies 4’s set off on the attack. Early into the match both sides took it in turns to pressure the opposition Ds. Reading landing the first couple of short corners, but nothing doing as fantastic defensive tacking from Captain Becky and a great save from Evelyn…

Immediately the ball is pitched up towards Reading goal. Hawks on the break, great play from Holly to Jade back to Holly with support from Sarah, and Holly scores! 1-0 to Hawks.

Pressure from Reading, again great defensive work from Becky and Annabel. Gemma starting her mazy runs, frustrating Rockets, couple of shorts awarded to Hawks but unable to make anything from them.

20 minutes into the match a fantastic period of play from Hawks, a well-timed interception from Tiggy, defence playing well snuffing out Reading chances with some great saves from Evelyn. Hawks seizing the opportunity to break, Bryony transferring to Sarah, setting up an attack from Birthday Girl Rebecca to Sarah….great save from Reading Keeper.

30 minutes in Gemma starts yet another mazy run, all the way to the D, Reading keeper stretched and made an important save, still 1-0 to Hawks. Reading Keeper keeping Rockets in the game. Half time came and Reading were lucky not to be 2 or 3 down.

Second Half, Hawks straight out of the blocks. A short corner to Hawks, Caz sees the back of the net and scores 2-0. Reading decide to wake up and start putting the pressure on our defence, and sneak in a goal, it's 2-1. The goal from Reading lifts their play and they start putting more and more pressure on us, but we are still attacking, with a short corner 15 minutes into the second half with a shot just wide. Fantastic run by Sarah so close to scoring, then Reading against the run of play, take an opportunity and score, it's 2-2.

Hawks keep pressure up with a great bit of build-up play, Rebecca to Tiggy to Sarah GOAL! Reading challenged the goal, umpires have a chat and the goal stands. Its 3-2 Hawks. Gemma sets off again in a spectacular tenacious run which Reading have no answers to. Sarah in support, Gemma pulls back and Sarah strikes it home. 4-2 to Hawks. Bryony seeks Jade out with a brilliant long transfer almost there, kicked away by Reading Keeper. Reading not giving up, but we are in the ascendance. Great chance Rebecca to Jade, with 2 minutes to go Reading Keeper makes her final save.

A great performance from the whole team, strong in attack, strong in midfield and strong in defence.

Many names in the running for MOM, in the end Sarah got it.
