Ladies 4s shock Witney as they storm to a 4-2 win

Ladies' 4s 4 - 2 Witney Ladies 2s

It was unfortunately a very wet and windy morning for our first league game away at Witney although this did not stop us from starting strongly and attacking Witney’s D earning an early short corner. This was converted with a straight strike by Catherine 1-0 after 7 mins.  We continued to play strongly, transferring the ball well and keeping our shape. This resulted in a second goal, froma good run down the wing from Rebecca, along the baseline, cutting back to Jade on the P-spot who banged it in the goal.  This was quickly followed by a third goal which was almost a replica of the second, this time a fast baseline run from Gemma who cut back to Rebecca for a superb finish!

Witney then started to apply some pressure which the defence dealt with well including an epic save from Evelyn!   We kept the pressure on with some great passing leading up to the end of the first half although the half ended with a Witney short corner to defend and another epic save from Evelyn – half time 3-0 to Hawks.

Witney came out sharply in the second half looking to attack straight away which resulted in a goal for them within 1 minute of the whistle.  The pressure continued from Witney testing our defence to the max. We worked hard as a team to win the ball back with Izzy’s effort at goal going just wide.  The next period of play was a succession of short corners for Witney, 7 in a row to be exact. We managed to defend them all with great defending from Becky and Nicky and of course player of the match, goalkeeper Evelyn – Witney were definitely frustrated!

With 10 minutes to go we lost a simple ball in defence and handed Witney an easy goal bringing the score line to 3-2.  We needed a goal, and needed it fast, this was delivered by Rebecca through great team passing and a good put away.  This lifted us back to the level of play from the first half and we started to assert ourselves again as in the first half.  Definitely a game of 2 halves but we finished playing strongly and came away with a 4-2 win.
