Going up against Oxford 2's, who are in the league the Mens 3's were relegated was never going to be a walk in the park
With both the Mens 1st XI and 2nd XI having full squads, we were bolstered by a handful of players from above. A strong starting 11 with 4 subs was a good sign for a team who had struggled to pull together a team the week before.
With over half the squad under the age of 20 (I think), there were a lot of legs but maybe a slight lack of experience. One poorly judged pass and Oxford broke through, going up.
However, this was quickly answered by Hawks as a drag flick pulled it back to 1 - 1.
A half time team talk focusing on short sharp passing was swifty rewarded as Oxford came out aggressive. An aggressive full press was quickly dismantled and mitigated by Hawks. Quite a few chances were created, but it wasn't Hawks day to score.
1 - 1 was disappointing for the day. But with lots of positives to take from the game and strong performances across the park there was a clear buzz in the team that was missing from last season
