On a bright sunny morning, the captain took the decision to meet on the pitch for the team chat – the team were very disappointed that cake wasn’t on offer. Last friendly game before the league matches started against local rivals Oxford. Not only was it important that we played well, early season bragging rights were up for grabs, and we didn’t disappoint. A mixture of youth and experience, energy and structure saw Hawks dominate the game. Three goals either side of half-time and no goals conceded was very satisfying. The chat at half-time was about switching play and taking more care on the ball which everyone took on board. With goals from both open play and penalty corners (straight from the training ground) and no penalty corners conceded, it was a satisfying day all round. The only minor blip was a mini tantrum from a senior player in the circle – she has been spoken to and her fine, yes you have guessed it, is cake.
Thank you for Charlie and Paddy for umpiring, a beautiful display.
