This was our penultimate game of the season. We had a strong line-up. Then disaster struck. Our keeper was ill and we had to recruit pitch players to stand in goal. Jo did the first half and Deborah did the second. We started off strongly with some excellent passing hockey. However, Bicester broke away and managed to score twice. Then Sharon did a lovely job of getting the ball to the top of the D. She slipped it to Victoria who put it in the net. So, the score at half time was 2-1.
We agreed at half time that we could easily win it. We piled on the pressure and 90% of the time the ball was in Bicester’s half, but we could not get it in the net. On one of the few occasions that we were defending, Bicester was awarded a short corner and did a strong strike into the corner of the goal. So, frustratingly, we finished losing 3-1.
Player of the match went to Lucy Hanslip who, in her first game, played outstandingly. It was beautiful to watch her and Sharon working beautifully together on the left.
Sadly, we also said goodbye to Jo who is moving to London in September. She has promised to come and play the games in Slough with us next season.
Our last game, against Sonning, is a rearranged game on 21st April. Let us know if you can play!
