Raring to go after a weekend with no hockey due to the snow, Ladies' 6s came out very strongly. Having gained the pushback, we kept possession with accurate passes and great team play for the first few minutes and were duly rewarded with our first goal, scored from a lovely straight strike by Linda in out first short corner.

We were all on form, everyone playing well individually, but also we really gelled as a team; keeping our structure and making accurate passes to keep possession and dominate the first half. Purdy had a relatively quiet first half, however Witney looked dangerous on one attack which was successfully defended. A series of short corners for Witney followed which were all unsuccessful due to the team work between Purdy and our defenders Becky, Jan and Blanche.

We knew that Witney would come out with more determination in the second half and we were right.Great support from our midfield players ,solid defending and the exceptional efforts from Purdy, held Witney off. The Witney attack was a bit of a wake up call for Hawks who had taken their foot off the gas for a moment. We sharpened our game with a fantastic effort from all players. Numerous impressive runs through 2/3 of the pitch for Polly, tenacious battling and great change of direction by Clare, great support play and skill as always, by Dette and great strikes and perfect positioning by Linda. In the midfield, Alice and Gemma worked well together (as they do in the under 14's team) running rings around the opposition.

Caitlin,Sophie (even though she had only had 2 hours sleep), Holly and Issie worked tirelessly in the midfield covering so much ground. This was crucial to our success in a fast paced game where they were able to turn around possession and transfer the ball up to our attackers on countless occasions. We were soon rewarded for our efforts with two more goals in quick succession. Both from short corners;the first scored by Gemma after a right slip from Linda. The second another straight strike from Linda who was on top form.

Hawks became a little complacent ,now 3-0 up and Witney took advantage of this .Numerous attacks on goal were met with spectacular saves from Purdy, however, eventually Witney scored from open play. In a last effort Witney put everything into their attack and in the final 5 minutes they were awarded a further 3 short corners however our defence were determined not to concede another goal.

The game ended 3-1 and Hawks were deserved winners.

MOM was Gemma Croker , for her superb skill and effort.
