Now there are 5 very canny fantasy league team owners who will tell you Peter (Ferret) Bennett was always a solid value for money choice, who can ague after Ferret's 4 goal haul and obvious man of the match award? The men of Amersham must have rubbed their hands with glee seeing the Falcons line up without fleet of foot Bear Smith and also England world cup winner sniffer Phil Dunnill.
The Falcons lined up with a makeshift defence of Chris Hutton and Ian Sobey and the latter player's mistake nearly allowed an Amersham forward to score but was thwarted by a fine smother save by Paul Brees. Après-ski indulgent keeper take note! The Falcons were soon in front as the quick silver Ferret rounded the keeper and finished neatly. Ferret soon added a second despite good work from the Amersham keeper. Ferret nearly added a third as the D was likened to a Pinball machine the final shot was turned in smartly by the wildly jubilant Russell Warner. Amersham's threats were mostly breakaways and were dealt with solid tackling from Ian Sobey and Chris Billington.
The second half, as almost always, started with an antithesis of what was discussed at half time - Warner at the top of the D chose to shoot rather than playing to the simple ball to Ferret Bennett in a better position to his left. This caused the Falcons to ease up/play worse or whatever, Amersham began to find their men and play some good hockey and pulled a goal back after Paul Brees failed to cut out a pass on the top of his D. Warner began to take a leaf out of Corporal Jones' book but after a sticky 10 minutes spell - however Ferret, or Sergio, sorted the problem out with 2 fine goals and the score finished a 5 goals to 1.
