Amersham & Chalfont, 3rd in the table, were put on the back foot from the start by a determined Hawks team. They had put 5 goals past the 6ths earlier in the season, but the day would turn out to be different. Drawing the graveyard slot at 4pm, the mix of youth and (well-matured) experience offered by Hawks saw Amersham struggling for options in both halves of the game.
The game reunited the capable skills of Paul Poulter, Ed Baldock and Simon (Boots) Dawson to give a spine and balance in defence, midfield and attack. Tom Gilman, James Finlayson & Matt Brook added further experience enabling the youth section to flourish. This section featured Arthur Baldock, George Dawson, Dan Evans, George Guillain, Will Laird and Alex Bush, the latter adding pace and composure to a very tidy performance from Hawks.
Notable input came from Dan Evans with his probing runs down the right of the pitch, with strong attacking hockey from George Guillain, Will Laird, Arthur Baldock and Alex Bush and some great defence from George Dawson.
Three goals were supplied by “Boots”. James Finlayson also took a goal with a cheeky flick over the keeper in the second half and Arthur Baldock opened his account with a true poacher’s goal from an intercepted ball off the right post.
Amersham pulled one goal back in the second half but, despite pressing hard, had little to counteract the strong Hawks defence and Jim 'The Cat' Felix kept the goal difference intact with some great saves.
