Hawks Boys U16s are now looking at the sharp end of the season and the fixture against a strong Amersham would test a slightly depleted squad but they were up for the challenge.
Marshalled by Ollie Doggett at the back and with Ollie Dunn and Laurie Cooke in midfield the cause was helped with the vocal Johnny the Fox between the sticks.
With a change in shape and an emphasis on providing a platform with 2 holding midfield players in Ollie Dunn and Krishan Badiani Hawks looked to be more effective and confident in possession.
With Simon White and Connor Rees leading the line Hawks were able to sow their capability to raise their game with Anton Eisner, Aaron Tyler Chamberlain and Hamish Ferguson more able to link with the ever hungry Dan Evans.
Amersham showed they were a good side and stole the lead but with excellent goals scored by Ollie Dunn and Ollie Doggett Hawks were able to come back to 3-2, and had a penalty stroke well saved by the Amersham keeper after he took out Connor Rees in a good scoring position.
Chances fell to both sides and Simon White was unlucky after an excellent move looked to have created the equaliser.
As the game ebbed and flowed and Amersham were able to finally seal the game with a well worked short corner routine.
Hawks deserve huge credit for their performance and played some of their best hockey of the season to date. It is unfair to pick out individuals but the two Ollie's in Doggett and Dunn set the standard and Anton Eisner, Dan Evans and Johnny The Fox provided the platform to give the team the belief in what can be achieved.
This is a turning point in the season and they relish the challenges ahead.
