Oxford Hawks Ladies' 1s faced Bedford on a damp, drizzly January morning at St. Edwards School in preparation for their upcoming league matches. Hawks started the game well and were dominating for the beginning of the first half. Dangerous runs up the left wing by Catherine Reaney gave Hawks a short corner in the first five minutes, where a straight strike was saved by the Bedford defence. The game was very even until a Bedford breakaway forced a short corner. A great save by Jess Hughes took away the threat of the Bedford attack. However, this did not last for long, as ten minutes in a lack of Hawks defence allowed Bedford to slot the ball into the Hawks goal. The rest of the half saw a number of short corners to Bedford, as well as some incredible saves by Jess Hughes. Unfortunately, just before half time, a well-executed short corner by Bedford brought the score to 2-0.
Hawks had most of the possession in the second half with a number of chances in the circle. Unfortunately, the fast breakaways by Bedford resulted in another short corner in the last fifteen minutes. A powerful strike into the corner of the goal was too much for the Hawks defence, increasing the scoreline to 3-0. Hawks continued to fight to the end, but could not alter the scoreline in their favour.
