Ladies' 1s beat Barnes in final friendly

27 January 2018, 12:00, St. Edward's School

Ladies' 1s 3 - 1 Barnes Ladies 1s

Hawks ladies 1s took on Barnes in their final friendly before the restart of the league. A small but mighty squad assembled and were massively grateful to Laura Scragg for stepping in and playing a second game of the day. Hawks started brightly and took the game to Barnes. Their first goal coming from a well worked short corner, with Reaney getting the final touch. Hawks continued to press well, and anything that did make it through was swept up by the central defensive pairing of Caro and Lex. A defense splitting pass from Jo put Katie through into a one on one with the keeper, which she finished into the bottom corner. Hawks went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

A good half time chat and a welcome rest saw Hawks return to the game in high spirits despite the rain. A more even second half followed as fatigue set in and Barnes created a number of chances. However, it was Hawks who scored again with a cheeky flick over the keeper from Reaney. Barnes had a period of sustained pressure towards the end of the game, though the Hawks defense held strong until with 20 seconds to go, they conceded a goal.

An enjoyable, if tiring game and a good warm up for next weeks league game against Swansea.
