An experiment of extreme warm-ups for L4s

13 January 2018, 14:00

Ladies' 4s 1 - 2 Banbury Ladies 2s

We knew that Banbury were going to be a tough team to play after reading about their excellent home record.  And this led to some rather extreme levels of commitment to warming up, including a three hour cycle from Oxford to Banbury (dick of the season award most definitely goes to Alex)!  This (and a late push back) gave the rest of the team much time to get almost as equally warm and pumped for what was going to be a tough game.

The start was strong, with some good possession play from the Hawks 4’s but unfortunately this couldn’t be converted into goals and alas at half time they found themselves undeservedly 1-0 down.  In the second half Hawks wanted the result even more and came out storming.  With lovely linked up play, a fab near post save from Evo and a flurry of Hawks short corners it was only a matter of time before they hit the back board.  The goal came with 5 minutes to go: Rebecca went on a run up the right using her silky skills to beat a Banbury defender before pushing the ball across to Holly from the byline.  Holly took Rebecca’s skills and raised them with a cheeky back stick finish over the keeper’s kickers.  Delightful.

Whilst this should have meant a draw… unfortunately in the midst of all the above Banbury got a second goal, which I have no details of what-so-ever. Our goal was clearly much more memorable!

A super team effort with some great opportunities – we’ll convert them into goals (and endeavour to be slightly less warmed up) next week!
