L4s braved Mr Frosty but came away empty handed

09 December 2017, 14:00

Ladies' 4s 1 - 4 Newbury & Thatcham Ladies' 1s

Hawks travelled away to a freezing game v the top of the table team. Poor traffic conditions meant almost the entire team was late in arrival, perhaps setting the scene for what was to come.

Hawks got off to a slow start, with quick turnovers and not a lot of attacking play. Despite some great play by Chloe and Lydia down the right, demonstrating the benefit of short, sharp passes, Newbury took advantage of several short corners to open the scoring with two goals. They shortly followed with another from open play.

At half time Jelly Babies lifted the team's spirits and Hawks played much better, putting into practice some of the skills Rory has been coaching at training. Although Newbury snatched another goal, the improved play led to several Hawks short corners. After one disallowed goal, Hawks regrouped and won another short corner. Finally the hard work was rewarded with a great strike from the top of the D by Rebecca. After some incredible saves from MOM goalie Evelyn, Hawks held firm to draw the second half 1-1, a small reward from a difficult game.

Hawks proceeded to huddle inside to commiserate over a well deserved tea of sloppy joe's and Dizzy brownies.
