Phoenix fleece L4s of fantasy league points

25 November 2017, 11:30

Ladies' 4s 0 - 5 Phoenix & Ranelagh Ladies 1s

As captain Becky headed off for sunny climes the remaining ladies' 4s players made the trek to Reading for a tough match against Phoenix & Ranelagh's 1st team.

Phoenix were a strong team who pushed hard and took all the opportunities created.  Hawks struggled to retain possession and Phoenix managed to convert 2 breakaway runs early in the match.  As the game progressed we tightened our marking and there were glimpses of some good passing hockey.

The 2nd half saw a much more proactive Hawks side but despite our solid defending the proactive Phoenix team took their chances as soon as they penetrated the D and were again rewarded with more goals.

In the final 10 mins of the match, Hawks returned to previous form, maintaining possession and distributing across the pitch.  Laura was deservedly awarded MOM for her calmness under pressure and driving up the left flank.  We even won a few short corners in the dying minutes of the game but alas were unable to convert.

Much to be worked upon but all was not lost as the teas provided at the uni were worth the trip and the beer we eventually were served was pretty top notch too!

Looking forward to Becky's return and hopefully a fantasy league point or 2 next week!
