Twelve Hawks players, including an injured but brave Wendy and Kat returning cautiously from injury, faced a Sonning team with four reserves. Sonning sit below Hawks 7s in the league, however, they had some really good players and the first half was tough. Two goals were conceded from good play by Sonning and the third was more frustrating. Charlotte in goal worked really hard and made some fantastic saves. Defence were put under constant pressure but battled well. Sometimes play was hampered by the fact one umpire was making decisions for both sides / ends of the pitch.
At half time it was decided to go for it and try and score and it was a completely different game. Everyone put in a huge effort in the drizzle and were quick to the ball which helped Hawks move play more into midfield. Unfortunately Hawks were unable to keep possession and get into their D. We left for the Christmas party a little frustrated but really pleased that we didn't allow Sonning to score in the second half.
Congratulations to Abi who was voted player of the match for her terrific game and commiserations to Purdy who hobbled off injured after a second hit on herleg. It was good of her to come and play on pitch for us.
