M1's take National League scalp in first round of the EH Cup

12 November 2017, 12:30

Men's 1s 5 - 1 Cheltenham Mens 1s

Hawks M1's travelled to Cheltenham on Sunday keen to continue their fine form following their excellent win on Saturday which took them to 2nd place in South Prem I.

Hawks ultimately proved too strong for their national league opponents, who seemed unable to live with the pace at which Hawks played the game.  Ryan Hammond opened the scoring from a penalty corner and Ben Gregory added to the score midday through the first half.  Further goals from Andy Watts and a brace from Will Heywood (although one should really have been chalked up to Watts!) made sure of a comfortable win, despite one missed penalty stroke, three strikes against the woodwork and two very glaring misses.

The day was marred by a broken thumb sustained by skipper Rob Dunnill, who is now likely to miss the remaining games before Christmas.

The draw for the next round is awaited with anticipation . . . despite the next round being played on the Sunday after the Hawks Christmas Social.  Hhhmm.
