On a bitterly cold Saturday morning in November, Oxford Hawks Ladies 2s were in Wycombe, playing against their Ladies 1s.
The first half saw many opportunities for Hawks in the opposite D, and they managed to convert five, with terrific team goals from Em W, Harriet, man of the match Kathryn, Claire and Gemma. The dominance of Hawks was accentuated further by the usual storming runs by Gabs and Hie, and shots whizzing just past the post from Emily D, Helen and Fi.
Now, if ever there was a game of two halves, this was it. Wycombe began the second half very strongly, and Hawks conceded three goals in quick succession. Another goal came soon after that to make the score 5-4 to Hawks with 10 minutes to go; play became pretty tense. Nevertheless, combined with Lydia playing a great match in goal, and crucial defending from Vicks, April, Megan, Victoria and Jess at the back, no more goals were scored before the final whistle.
Hawks breathed a big sigh of relief after an ultimately tough contest against a strong opposition and look forward to playing West Hampstead on Saturday 11th November.
