We are familiar foes with Eastcote 3s. Always a physical but fair battle and we came out 3-2 winners. We were much improved from last week, moved the ball better and were more organised in defence. Notable performances from Tom Murray again who had a real battle with their centre forward, and the re-emergence of Will Cairns in his centre half role (my spies have told me he was even seen running on Sunday morning as well!) to win the MOM. A disputed first goal from Chris Maidlow (to be fair it was Luke who was disputing whether he should have the goal allocated to him) puts Chris on the score sheet for the first time this year. We conceded just before half time and the score was one apiece with all to play for in the second half. Eastcote looked the likelier to score but Neil finished at the far post from a Luke Piper backhand hit across the keeper (half time team talks sometimes pay off!) to put us ahead again and then eventually we conceded again under more pressure from Eastcote. We then took the lead from a short corner. I could say it was a goal of beauty, but it was more of a bobbler from Jack Burke which somehow their keeper and man on the line contrived to miss. A last minute clearance off the line (well half the ball was on the line) and we ran out 3-2 winners and took another 3 points on the road. An even contest that probably could have gone either way, but we seemed to score at the right times. Thanks to both umpires for officiating. Off to Milton Keynes next week..
