Megan Minton brace secures a 2-1 win for L3s against Oxford 3s
21 October 2017, 10:00, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 3s 2 - 1 Oxford Ladies 3s
Hawks started well with most of the play in the Oxford half but found it difficult to get the ball past Emma Page in the Oxford goal who was in good form. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Hawks played a good passing move down the right, stretching play, with man of the match, Megan Minton, connecting with the cross to score her first. The second followed shortly with Megan striking from the right at goal. The goal bound ball took a deflection off defender Katie Smith’s foot and spun high into the Oxford goal leaving the keeper stranded.
At halftime Hawks felt confident they would be good for another couple of goals in the second half. This was not in Oxford’s game plan. They came out firing putting Hawks under pressure and soon pulled a goal back when an Oxford player received the ball unmarked in front of goal, rounded the keeper to place it in the far corner of the net. Oxford came close to drawing level from a penalty corner strike from Suzanne Williams but this was toe poked away from goal by the keeper for a long corner. The game was evenly played out to the final whistle finishing 2-1 to Hawks. Many thanks to Tom Harris for helping out on the sideline!
Joint Player of the Match went to Linda Billington and Megan Minton.
