Eagles soaring on Sunday

Eagles 5 - 1 Chichester Ladies Masters
Another full squad met in the Autumn sunshine to welcome Chichester to Banbury Road North. As the first half developed the Eagles started to find each other well and move the ball across the pitch. New Eagles Kelly F and Sally H fitted easily into the team . A few early chances were saved or hit were hit over the bar but it was in the 18th minute that Oxford player Clare Hooper scored the first goal. It was only a few minutes later that a second was scored, this time by Sherene Butler after a series of passes down the right hand side of the pitch, starting with Susan McErlain in defence, and through Rachel Bellamy linking well in midfield before Rebecca Black pulled the ball back for Sherene to hit it in.
We we had the privelege of a half time team talk from Andy Clark who encouraged us to play with a high forward and to maintain our pace on and off the ball. We had already worked out that we needed to go round the keeper who was stopping straight shots. It was Chichester however that scored next with a beautifully taken touch at the post from a short corner. Shocked into action again it was Rebecca Black who added her name to the scoresheet with a deft between the legs dink that fooled everyone !
As Chichester’s legs started to tire two further goals were scored with Sherene and Rebecca adding another each.
A game that that was played in a friendly spirit by all. Thanks to the Jacs for umpiring, Phil for managing the team, and Evelyn for taking a team photo and pulling pints!
MOM was Clare Pritchard.
Fabulous photos of the match by Clive Jones.
