The Falcons replaced the ever mobile Bear Smith with the lightly raced Ferret and soon began to dominate the early proceedings on Amersham's newly laid synthetic turf - the editor comments it cost the equivalent of Mesut Ozil's fortnightly pay cheque.
Dave Blomley adapted well to playing right half and was soon playing deft passes to the reverse stick of Amersham's left half with unerring accuracy. Russell Warner, after slow start, began to command the midfield with Phil Dunnill causing problems for the hard working Amersham defence.
It was not long before Falcons took the lead, a firmly hit short corner by the svelte midfield general was the first of Russell Warner's 3 goals. This was soon followed by a fine move down the right hand side involving a Andy Bishop run and cross and swept in by half termer Ferret Bennett. Steve Griffiths made it 3 before half time only for Ross to narrow the lead just before the break - 3 goals to one at half time.
The Falcons had the majority of possession but were not creating many chances. Warner restored the 3 goal lead with an unstoppable short corner (his words obviously!) and Amersham pulled a goal back after a defensive mistake by Falcons was well finished by the home attacker.
There was time for Warner to somehow smash/trickle to ball over the line and suggest he might be worth adding to your Fantasy Side! The final score 5 - 2 to the Falcons, probably about right. Many thanks to both umpires who were excellent, great hospitality in the bar and table service enjoyed and appreciated by all.
