This was a tough match on ghe back of a heavy and disorganised defeat away at Reading last week. Thrown a curve ball with an injured keeper, Jack Sobey helped out again with a man of the match performance in goal.
pre match talk from skipper was nearly sabotaged by Bear obviously turned by the oppo to create confusion, but the ploy didnt work.
losing a goal in the first five minutes looked ominous, but the team found their shape with plain graft, and slowly the 7's got into the game.Skipper Spittles had to depart with a nasty hand injury just before half time and and 0-1 at half time, the team chat was really positive. Shambles b,udgeoned his way into getting an equalizer, and then the skilful Royer somehow flicked Hawks into the lead! Thame were not a happy bunch, and flew at Hawks, and eventually, the pressure got to the beleagured Hawks defence and it was 2-2.
tbis was not the most talented team that i have expeeienced over tge last 5 years of skippering it, but it was the best team performance i have plyed with, the looks on the teams at the end said it all, if ever a draw felt lkke a win then this was it!!
The organised pressing and defensive play from the forwards was the most impressive part.
Oxford this week!
Many thanks to the 3's boys for an impressive umpiring performance.
