A primetime spot at BRN showcased the Ladies 2s against a newly promoted Sonning 1s for our 4th match of the season. In a similar fashion to Southgate, Sonning applied pressure from the first whistle, and were rewarded with a goal and the 2s found themselves losing 1-0 within the first two minutes of the game.

Unhappy with the shaky start, Hawks were determined to make the next 33 minutes of the 1st half count. Confident skills and pace meant Hie soon found the backboard putting us back to equal ground at 1-1. Increased momentum from the whole team achieved a short corner, where Claire took advantage of a mis-hit to score and put Hawks into the lead. The Ladies 2s drove forward with a flurry of attacks and continuous possession and were rewarded with a 3rd goal, this time from Fi. Hungry for another goal, Hie attacked the D and hit the ball as hard as a lightning bolt making it 4-1 for half time.

Determined to give the home crowd a good show, the 2s went out into the second half just as hard. Gabs beat several players with a long run from half way to the base line then pulled the ball back to give Claire the opportunity for a tap in and her second goal.

Credit to Sonning who also came out hard in the second half and continued to challenge us by looking dangerous on the break. They had a continued series of shorts and shots on target which eventually gave Sonning their 2nd goal. However, history has a funny way of repeating itself and Fi continued with the order of goal scorers by picking up a rebound ball and slotting it bottom left to make it 6-2. With a few minutes left of the match, Emily Wilkins delivered a brilliant hit on target only for Kathryn to goal snatch it on the line to give Hawks a 7-2 victory on the final whistle.
