Men's 4s comeback from a goal deficit to win 3-1 vs the Wanderers

14 October 2017, 15:00, Banbury Road North (Near)

Men's 4s 3 - 1 Wootton Wanderers Men's 1s

With a squad of 15 we welcomed back Gary into the middle of the park and Jonny Fox came into goal. With played with good intensity in the first half and created some excellent chances but consistently found the keepers gloves. A little more composure on the ball and the game probably should have been out of sight. As the first half ended Wootton had there first opportunity and scored from a short corner. So 1-0 down at half time felt a little bit of an injustice, but such is sport and we kept calm and trusted that with an improvement with our decision making and accuracy, we should prevail. Tim Martin, scored with calm authority from a short corner, and the dugout breathed a sigh of relief. This was followed by another good finish from Martin Pickup, following up on the pads. Finally the goal of the game came from Rodney who was found with an exquisite pass from Gary, and he deflected it neatly pass the keeper from the base line. We probably should have gone on and scored more but we made the last 10 minutes hard work by turning the ball over too much, but ran out deserved winners. Honourable mentions to Tom Murray who had their best player in his pocket for the whole game and won MOM. DOD goes to Rodney for forgetting his gum guard and having to cycle home during the first half to get it - he however capped off a fine performance with a goal. Many thanks to Alex for running the bench, and to Dave Dawes and Andy Kaye for umpiring.

Also it was great to see some familiar Hawks faces on the opposition, with player coach Phil Knight and Jasper Miller turning out for Wootton. Jasper managed to fire one rocket into Chris's knee which bought a smile to everyone's face....
