With 15 players and a manager coupled with the realisation that the opposition had 11 and no keeper It looked as though a win could be possible. However it was Basingstoke who scored first amd early. It was not long before a good passing move saw Sherene free in the circle and with no keeper the ball hit the backboard with pace. BAsingstoke counter attacked again and went ahead with a well worked penalty corner lifted over Linda billington who had gone to ground on the initial save. Another good passing move between midfield and forwards saw Pip Cantwell with space in the D and it was her turn to slot the ball home and equalise for the second time. An even fIrst saw Basingstoke go in ahead scoring a third just before the whistle from another short corner. A stirring half time team talk from Vicky Easton saw the Eagles determined to recover the game, but it was not to be. Basingstoke scored a fourth against the run of play and then despite a period of Eagles pressure and a series of short corners it was the home team who scored again on the break. With nothing to lose it was Eagles turn to play with a kicking back, but still unable to penetrate the defence it was a 5-2 defeat.
