The M1's were looking to properly start their league campaign following last weekend and the atrocity of a showing at Iffley Road. An 11am start. BRN. The boys looked bright, sharp and in the case of our resident flicker; shiny.
Welcoming Kieran 'Rocket' Roche back into the fold for what must be his 12th 1st XI debut, Hawks started brightly, moving the ball with pace, penetrating everything including the circle and all in all dominating pretty much the whole half. However 5 minutes before the break, Eds broke, hands moved and rumours of ex-Hawk mini Blakemore slotting the ball past a stranded Price. Half time, down but never out.
Second half, out we came. The front 6 doing plenty of bits going forwards and hunting like raptors in defence forcing turnovers all over the pitch. 5 minutes after half time, Biggsy slotted a trade mark flick leaving the Eds' keeper flapping helplessly. From there, the tales were up and the opposition had no chance. 3 further goals followed with new signing Watts banging a brace and young Edward Bennett poaching like his father in his prime on the far post. The only time Eds really threatened was when Rocket failed to trap a sympathetic ball from Blakemore (editors note: it was absolutely not sympathetic), but outside of that Pricey was a spectator.
A great response following the on pitch display last week. MOM to Ray 'beers' Prince for a super display beyond his years in the midfield with a special mention to Will Heywood, who obviously managed to sell his shares in Clinton Cards between Wednesday and Saturday as he not only stayed on the pitch, but did multiple bits which truly were a delight to watch.
